Pvt. Wars Wins Elmbridge Festival

The 2017 Elmbridge Drama Festival was small but perfectly formed with five high quality plays competing to go through to the next round of the All-England Theatre Festival.

RDG's production of Pvt. Wars, directed by Mark Humble, opened the festival on Friday 10th March and received an excellent adjudication by Jill Colby, GoDA.

After the Saturday evening's plays and adjudications, Jill announced the winners in all the 11 categories. Pvt. Wars was placed first, winning the Richard Davis Trophy for Best Play. This breaks a run of several years as Runners Up.

The three young cast members were also rewarded - Josh Smith as Best Actor and Maxfield Usher as Best Youth Actor. Troy Chessman was nominated as Best Actor. In addition, Mark Humble was nominated as Best Director and the production was nominated for the Technical Award.

Congratulations to all the team, especially Josh who, as a new member of RDG, hasn't been on stage since his schooldays!

The play now goes on to compete in the Eastern Area Semi Final at the Barn Theatre, Oxted on 27th May to compete for a place in the English Final in June.

In the meantime, the play will have a further outing at the Leatherhead Drama Festival on 11th May.
