A Little Like Drowning
by Anthony Minghella
A Little Like Drowning had 5 performances over 19 years ago (between the 5th of April 2005 and the 9th of April 2005) at The Riverhouse Barn
This play is one of love won and lost, retold through the reflections of 72 year old Nonna. At home and as she walks on the beach with her granddaughter, we see her life past and present in juxtaposition. the innocence and freshness of young love, the pressures of family live, leading to her husband's infidelity, the expectation of marriage within two different cultures and three generations are cleverly interwoven through scenes that move smoothly through time and place with humour and great sensitivity.
Written by Anthony Mingella, more recently acclaimed for the screen play and direction of films like Truly Madly Deeply, The English Patient and Cold Mountain, he has also written plays for radio and theatre. A Little Like Drowning originally toured in 1982 and was presented on radio in 1989 with Alan Rickman.
