The Ragged Child
by Music by David Nield. Book and lyrics by Jeremy James Taylor and Frank Whately
The Ragged Child had 4 performances almost 11 years ago (between the 20th of February 2014 and the 22nd of February 2014)
A stark and moving account of child deprivation in London in the 1850s which won the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Award. The Ragged Child is about the plight of the poor and destitute, mirrored in the tragic lives of Joe Cooper and his sister Annie. We see Lord Shaftesbury fighting for the education of the poor in the House of Lords, and, from an inauspicious beginning, the 'Ragged Schools' are founded with Lord Shaftesbury as President - but it is too late for Joe and Annie.
There will be a workshop on 23rd September in the hall at the back of the social club in Egham next to the Fire Station. This is to give everyone a chance to really get to grips with the story, characters, dances and songs, providing everyone with the best chance possible of getting the part they want at the auditions. Auditions will be on Sunday 29th September from 10am to 2pm at the Social Club. Final auditions and/or a read through of the play and singing will be held on Monday 30th September.
Rehearsals will be on Mondays from 5pm to 7.30pm. Additional Sunday rehearsals will take place nearer the show dates.
