A Chorus of Disapproval

by Alan Ayckbourn

A Chorus of Disapproval had 4 performances almost 36 years ago (between the 15th of March 1989 and the 18th of March 1989)

A Chorus of Disapproval was a milestone RDG production as in 1989 it was selected to mark our one hundredth Main Production.

It was felt to be an apt choice as the play concerns an amateur theatrical company and the vissitudes which befall them as they rehearse 'The Beggar's Opera'. As John Gay's songs are cleverly woven into the plot, it answered the demand for a musical element, and. of course, it was written by the master of modern comedy, Alan Ayckbourn, whose plays had featured more fequently than any other in our list of 99 productions. The play also had a flexible chorus so that we could include as many members as possible in this celebratory presentation.

Moreover, the play had just been released to amateur companies so we were to be one of the first to stage it. And, by luck, we were able to present the play at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre at Woking - the last there before the theatre was mothballed for three years for the major re-development into the new Arts Centre.

So the fates presented us with this very funny, clever play to mark this very important milestone in our history.
