Loose Connections
by Michael Scanlan
Loose Connections had 2 performances about 9 years ago (between the 6th of October 2015 and the 24th of October 2015) at Riverside Arts Centre and Rhoda McGaw Theatre
This is the second play performed by the newly formed RDG Youth. Following the success of The Spasm in 2014 this play about modern methods of communication and non-communication will be presented as part of the Woking Drama Festival and the Spelthorne & Runnymede Drama Festival 2015.
With all the technology of pagers, answering machines, faxes, emails, chatrooms, phones, texts, social media, it's a wonder we connect at all! This play is about a group of young adults who try to get together even though the forces of technology and circumstance conspire against them. Have our inventions served their purpose in bringing us closer together? Or do they, as this play implies, create a world where distance can be more easily maintained?
This play cleverly uses projections of dialogue to illustrate lively chatroom discussions, along with audiotaped (or live) answering machine recordings.
