Bed
by Jim Cartwright
Bed had 5 performances over 22 years ago (between the 7th of March 2002 and the 4th of July 2002) at Eden Court Theatre, Prince of Wales Theatre and Cecil Hepworth Playhouse
Our entry in the 2002 Elmbridge Festival is a surreal exploration of dreams and the twilight world of old age. Bed uses broad humour, dry wit and puns counterpointed by moving poetry to underline the many themes of this unusual play.
Having won the Elmbridge One Act Drama Festival, which is the first round of the All-England Theatre Festival, this play won though three subsequent rounds of the competition to become English Champions for the third time in ten years.
The play represented England at the British Festival of One-Act Plays competing against the representatives of the other three British countries at the Eden Court Theatre, Inverness in the summer of 2002 where it was placed Runners-Up to the eventual winner by one mark!
