Find Me
by Olwyn Wymark
Find Me had 2 performances about 16 years ago (between the 4th of October 2008 and the 15th of October 2008) at Riverside Arts Centre
At the age of twenty, Verity Taylor was charged by the police with damaging a chair by fire in the mental hospital where she was a patient. Later she was committed to Broadmoor "from where she may not be discharged or transferred elsewhere without permission of the Home Secretary".
Using a technique of multiple characterisation, the play seeks to investigate in depth the personality of the young girl, to "find" her - and at the same time studies the effects of her behavious on the family, the friends and the officials in whose care she is periodically placed.
Find Me is a really strong ensemble piece about Verity, a disturBed young girl, the effect her behaviour has on her life and family and how the mental health "system" fails her.
THIS PRODUCTION IS TO BE PERFORMED BY RDG YOUTH WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 2008
It needs five girls and three boys minimum (ideal number). All girls get to play Verity and her mother at some point and all the boys play the father and brothers among the roles.
Further information can be obtained from the Director, Jane Walters on 01483 224445 or jane.walters6@btinternet.com
The play will be performed as part of the Woking Festival (30th September to 11th October) and the Spelthorne & Runnymede Festival (13th to 18th October). Woking date is 4th October. Spelthorne Wednesday 15th October.
