Sister Act
by Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Glenn Slater, Book by Cheri & Bill Steinkellner, Additional Book Material by Douglas Carter Beane
Sister Act had 4 performances about 5 years ago (between the 14th of November 2019 and the 16th of November 2019) at Rhoda McGaw Theatre
188th Production. Based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture 'Sister Act' written by Joseph Howard. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe). All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI Europe www.mtishows.co.uk
Sister Act is a hugely enjoyable musical with some great musical numbers, a storyline and period very different from any musical we’ve done before and it offers some terrific roles. It’s funny, touching and most importantly promises to be a whole lot of fun.
I won’t repeat here the excellent synopsis that appears online in the Guide to Musical Theatre, http://www.guidetomusicaltheatre.com/shows_s/sisteract.html but it’s worth finding this and reading it if you’re unfamiliar with Sister Act. You can also listen to the music on YouTube.

Deloris Van Cartier / Sister Mary Clarence - Emma ThompsonStrong voice and big personality. Loud mouthed and sassy, but ultimately caring. Lots of comic moments. Written as a role for a black actress, but it can be played with a white actress and we can adapt the script where appropriate. On for most of the show and a large singing role. Audition songs - Fabulous Baby and Sister Act. |
|
Mother Superior - Jean WarnerNot necessarily older than the other nuns, but needs the gravitas, authority and seniority. Good voice needed for a couple of songs. Has a sarcastic sense of humour contrasting with outrage at the nuns’ performance. Protective about keeping the nuns away from the outside world. Audition song - Here within these walls. |
|
Curtis Jackson - Paul FosterNightclub owner, gangster and Deloris’ boyfriend. Always on the edge of violence. Controlling. A nasty piece of work. Has a great comic song with the other thugs. Audition song- When I find my baby. |
|
Lt. Eddie Souther - Tom KeatingLocal cop who was at school with Deloris where he had a crush on her. A nice guy, nervous under pressure (prone to sweating!) who dreams he could be the one for Deloris. One main song to belt out with feeling. Audition song - I could be that guy. |
|
Sister Mary Robert and Nightclub Dancer - Amy HornYoung postulant who changes from being shy and retiring to defiant of the mother Superior and standing between her ‘sister’ Deloris and Curtis with his gun. One solo to belt out and solo lines within other numbers. Audition song - Life I never led. |
